For the first time in American history, one of the two major political parties is nominating a presidential ticket without a member of the Protestant faith, the One News Now website reports today (August 12, 2012).

The fact was realized yesterday, when Mitt Romney -- a Mormon -- chose Congressman Paul Ryan to be his running mate. Ryan is a dedicated Roman Catholic.

Regarding the non-traditional presidential ticket, the National Journal states, "Romney's team clearly thinks they are going to win on religion in the campaign, even though evangelicals won't have one of their own on the ticket."

Last month, a Pew Research Poll indicated that white evangelical voters are less likely to be comfortable with Romney's Mormonism than any subgroup, other than atheists and Democrats.
