Alexander ?TheSlaSH? M?ller has confirmed that SK-Gaming will not be sending the Counter Strike 1.6 team to GameGune in Bilbao next week.
After not appearing on any participant lists for this years GameGune, the Managing Director of SK-Gaming, Alexander?M?ller, released this statement.
After what happened at Dreamhack and especially the way the team prepared for this tournament, we approached the GameGune tournament in a different way than previous years. We don?t see the investment of going there is worth it.
A lot of tournaments have been called the last one for 1.6 so far. Among those a couple we participated in. To me it was ESWC 2011. This was also the last title missing at our end, therefore we feel like we have closure on the whole CS topic no matter what.
SK-Gaming beat ESC Gaming in the final of GameGune 2011 to claim the $12,000 prize. However, the team will have to watch from their own homes this year.
When asked on the future of the Counter Strike 1.6 division at SK-Gaming,?Alexander?M?ller said, ?Remains to be seen..?
With the potential closure of the?SK-Gaming?Counter Strike Division and the lack of tournaments now supporting Counter Strike, is it only a matter of time until other teams follow suit?
