The Dark Knight Rises ? the eagerly awaited new Batman film is due for release next month?out now and no doubt men and women will flock to see it. Batman has never lost his appeal and it is target audience may originally have been men and boys but there is a growing army of adult female fans, here?s why I think women love that masked crusader.
Batman first appeared in comic book form in 1939 where he was very popular with kids but it was the 1960s TV program that was the beginning of his universal appeal. The story is a simple one. Bruce Wayne is an American millionaire who enjoys all the best life has to offer. He is a playboy, industrialist, and philanthropist and lives in a grand house with his butler Alfred Pennyworth.? When he was a small boy he witnessed the murder of his parents and as a result of this early trauma he swore revenge on criminals, but always with an emphasis on justice ? doing what is right.
Wayne put himself through vigorous training both physically and intellectually and to protect his identity when he was out clearing the streets of Gotham City he has a bat costume made and thus became Batman.
We all love a good superhero but what separates Batman from all the rest is that he isn?t a superhero, he is an ordinary man dressed up ? he has no super powers just lots of really cool gadgets like the bat mobile which is kept in the bat cave. He is a wounded boy trying to make the world a better place and women love that.
Batman makes the maximum use of his amazing? intellect, canny detective skills, the latest? science and technology, his incredible wealth, his enviable physical prowess, exceptional martial arts skills which when all combined with an indomitable will give him everything he needs to engage in his continuous war on crime. But when he takes that costume off he is just a regular guy.
What woman doesn?t want her ordinary man to occasionally be a hero?
No superhero would be complete without a sidekick and Robin is Batman?s loyal friend but it is his rival Catwoman that many women fantasize about (and men I imagine). Those sexy tight fitting costumes and then being chased all over Gotham city by a masked crusader, it is easy to see the appeal!
