'Smiley Cancer' | TopNews New Zealand

smily faceIt has been recently revealed that a patient?s cancer tumor, when seen under the microscope, seemed to look like a smiling face.

This is an incident of Sydney, where the researchers have been astonished by watching the ?smiling face?, in the cancer protein, which later develops cancerous. A team of scientists from Westmead Millennium Institute of Medical Research had developed this type of protein, and they were to study how it would eventually develop into a tumor, in the body.

It was revealed by Associate Professor Beric Henderson, the leader of the research that they had never witnessed anything like this before and they need to investigate further to find out the reason for such a shape in the protein.

The people in the laboratory seem to be very intrigued by this newest fascination. Meanwhile Professor Henderson as well as his teammates, are trying to develop what sort of behavior the beta-catenin protein has, which will unravel further mysteries about the entire procedure of how cancer is formed.

It was further added that the chain reaction after the activation of the genes, gives result to the transformation of normal cells into cancer cells.

?That's really the place where the cancer protein does its things. If it doesn't go into the nucleus it doesn't cause cancer. So we're studying how it gets in there to hopefully work out how to stop it doing so?, he said further.

He said the process is long and tiring and might even tend to take a toll on the health of a person, but it is essential to complete this research to unravel the true aspects of why the cancer forms. This shall further help in the development of new modes of treatment for the same.
